BricAbrac Teatro wins the Children's Baroque competition in Almagro

Efe – Friday, July 7, 2023It has presented its puppet show and live cinema 'Don Quixote nomad', which has aroused the interest of the jury of the competition, which has valued this project that fuses the artisanal and analogue with new communication tools

The Andalusian company BricAbrac Teatro has won the new edition of the International Baroque Children's Contest, which was born in 2012 within the framework of the Almagro International Classical Theater Festival to make the children's audience aware of the theater of the Golden Age through an accessible language.

BricAbrac Teatro, which has presented its puppet show and live cinema 'Don Quixote nomad' this year in Almagro, has aroused the interest of the jury of the contest, which has valued this project that fuses the artisanal and the analogical with the new communication tools. The characters built on paper emanate from the book as if Cervantes's dream came to life from the raw material of which the books are made, and five cameras distributed around the recording sets include this renewed version of the most classic of the classics. The director of the Almagro Festival, Irene Pardo, has been in charge of reading the minutes of the jury, which has valued the adaptation and direction of Elena Bolaños based on the novel of the ingenious hidalgo Don Quixote de la Mancha, by Miguel de Cervantes.

A production, said Pardo, in which the jury valued "the magnificent use of new technologies applied to a universal work, in perfect combination with the rigorous and careful work of the manipulators, without losing the essence of a craftsmanship in the making of puppets and scenographic elements, which together with the sense of humor, manages to bring the Cervantine universe closer to a wide range of public. "Pardo has also made known that the jury of this edition of the Children's Baroque has also decided unanimously to grant a special mention to the work "Life is a dream" adapted by Els Vandell and under the direction of Fito Valles, produced by the Peruvian company Teatro La Plaza. All this , has pointed out, in the words of the jury "for the successful adaptation, in a clear and effective way, of a classic text by Calderón de la Barca, for a family audience".
