Gijón is filled with art with the Rincones y Recovecos Festival: 21 theater, music, puppet and dance shows

08/23/2024

From September 12 to 14, Gijón will become the epicenter of the performing arts with the celebration of the seventh edition of the Rincones y Recovecos Festival. This festival, recognized for its ability to transform singular spaces into unique settings, offers this year an exceptional program with 21 shows that cover theater, music, puppets, film and dance. With its innovative proposal, the festival seeks to bring culture to all audiences and provide artistic experiences in unusual corners of the city.

Diverse and quality programming

The festival stands out this year for the inclusion of three absolute premieres and two previews, consolidating itself as an important platform for the dissemination of new creations. Among the premieres, there are productions by Asturian companies such as Factoría Norte with its work Dormiyosos, Mago Nacho with Imagínate Mago Nacho, and Soy Semilla with Quien a Buen Arbol se arrima. In addition, the festival will feature Bhaus’ preview of Project Piloto and Working Class by Mapi Quintana.

In addition to local productions, the festival will attract companies from different parts of Spain, such as Teatro del Cuervo (Asturias) with The Smallest Theater in the World, La Roca Producciones (Asturias) with Zozobra, and Ábrego Producciones (Cantabria) with Lear in the cathedrals. Companies from La Rioja, Navarra, Madrid and Andalusia also join the lineup, as well as the international participation of the Mexican company MondomEraki, which will present two shows: Cuentos con café and Frida.

Unique settings and activities for everyone

What makes Rincones y Recovecos special is its commitment to staging in unconventional locations, which provides the public with a unique and immersive experience. This year, the 16 spaces selected within Laboral Ciudad de la Cultura include everything from kitchens and laundries to the PatiOh!, the cafeteria, and the theater’s stage box. These places, which often go unnoticed, will be transformed into stages where art will come to life in an intimate and surprising way.

The festival will not only offer shows for adults, but will also have a program designed for the little ones, with free activities in Asturian and craft games. Additionally, some functions will include a drink to complete the experience, adding a touch of hospitality to the event.

Affordable prices and facilities for the public

With the aim of making culture accessible to all audiences, Rincones y Recovecos maintains popular prices for its shows, with tickets ranging between 2 and 15 euros. Tickets are now available at various points of sale, such as the reception of Laboral Ciudad de la Cultura, the Asturias Tourist Information Center in Oviedo, and the Niemeyer Center in Avilés, in addition to the option of purchasing them online through the webvocationciudaddelacultura.com or by phone.

The festival also offers discounts for members of the Culture Club until September 11, thus encouraging the participation of a diverse and large audience.

A high-level cultural collaboration

The Rincones y Recovecos Festival is possible thanks to the collaboration between various cultural and educational institutions. Among the main sponsors are the Ministry of Culture, Language Policy and Sports of the Principality of Asturias, Gijón Impulsa, the Ministry of Culture and Sports through the National Institute of Performing Arts and Music (INAEM), and the Municipal Foundation of Culture of Gijón.

This synergy between entities has allowed the festival to continue growing and consolidating itself as one of the most anticipated cultural events on the Asturian calendar, offering a comprehensive artistic experience that connects creators and spectators in a unique environment.

A festival with its own identity

Rincones y Recovecos is not only a performing arts festival, but a celebration of creativity and culture in all its forms. With a diverse programming, unique spaces, and a focus on accessibility, this event promises to be an unforgettable experience for all those who come to enjoy the arts in Gijón.
