Garachico is filled with theater with the 'Hipócritas' festival

The fifth edition of the festival, coordinated by Burka Teatro, will be held from September 28 to October 1 in the Villa and Puerto

The best classical theater will fill Garachico with the Hipócritas festival. The old convent of San Francisco will be converted into a theater space to host national and international companies that will fly the flag of classical theater. The public will travel to the golden centuries of Spanish literature with adaptations of some classics or with new creations that navigate the style of the great authors of the time.

The fifth edition of the festival, coordinated by the Tenerife company Burka Teatro, will be held from September 28 to October 1 in the Villa and Puerto. Admission to attend the main shows is free. Hipócritas is promoted by the cultural project of the Garachico City Council, Garachico Area.

Four plays have been scheduled that will be combined with training and other parallel activities. In addition, during this fifth edition the winners of the second edition of the classic theater fragments contest will be announced. It will be on Sunday, October 1 at 11:00 a.m. The fragments selected to compete can be seen in advance on Saturday, September 30 at 6:00 p.m., beginning at the Puerta de Tierra in Garachico.

Theatrical and training programming

The programming will begin on Thursday, September 28 with training activities. ‘With hands on work’ is the title that covers a series of training initiatives. Ana Zamora, director of the Nao D’amores company, will give the talk ‘Mystery of the Christ of the Gascones’: another way of doing theater. It will be in the El Escritorio cultural space at 6:00 p.m. Later, at 8:30 p.m., you can see this same play: ‘Mystery of the Christ of the Gascones’ (Nao D’Amores / 60′). It will be in the old convent of San Francisco de Garachico.

The event on Friday, September 29 will be aimed at the students of the Canary Islands Actors School at its headquarters in Tenerife (La Laguna). ‘Enredando’ is a meeting space for professionals. At this meeting, at 11:00 a.m., there will be Ana Zamora, director of Nao D’Amores; Pepe Arteaga, professor at the ULL; and Aranza Coello, from Burka Teatro and the Hipócritas festival. The ULL Performing Arts classroom collaborates.

To end the day on Friday, September 29, you will enjoy La Chana Teatro with the play ‘La audadía’ (La Chana Teatro / 60′). It will be at 8:30 p.m. in the old convent of San Francisco.

The fifth edition continues on Saturday, September 30 and ‘With hands on work’. An approach to the theater of objects will be made with Jaime Santos, director of La Chana Teatro. It will be in the El Desk cultural space at 11:00 am.

Sunday, October 1, will be the last day of this fifth edition of the Hipócritas classical theater festival. It will conclude with a play for the little ones: ‘Nomad Don Quixote’ (Bricabrac theater / 60′). It will be at 12:30 p.m. in the old convent of San Francisco.
